Book Remakes?

Currently I'm reading Dracula in Love by Karen Essex. It is what I call a 'remake' of the original Bram Stoker's Dracula. It is the same story, only told through Mina's point of view. I know that there are other books like this, especially the ones that put zombies into the stories. I was wondering what you thought about these remakes? Good idea? Bad idea? So far, I'm finding it very interesting (I'm reading both together).
