Review: Fact of Life #31

Fact of Life #31
Fact of Life #31 by Denise Vega

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fact of Life #31 by Denise Vega is a snapshot of Kat Flynn's life during her junior year in high school. Not only does Kat have to deal with being weird Yoga Girl at school, but she also has to deal with her massive crush on Manny Cruz. At home, she must also try to figure out her mom, Abra and why she and her mom cannot related to each other. Throughout it all, Kat has her best friend Christy and her little sister Lucy to help see her through it all.

I'm in love with this story, like many other books geared towards teen readers, because unlike any other genre, these stories feel real. Though the reader cannot always directly relate to the plot points, everyone knows what it is like to feel awkward and confused in the middle of high school, trying to find out where your life is taking you next. Many of us may also have had that moment of clarity where those you once saw as enemies do have a human side. It is a unique coming-of-age story that I know I will pick up and read again in the future because the main character is someone that you just want to root for, no matter what situation she is in.
