Review: With or Without You

With or Without You
With or Without You by Domenica Ruta

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

With or Without You by Domenica Ruta is a memoir that explores the life of a child who lives with a drug-addicted mother. Of course, the book goes beyond those childhood moments that shape the author's life and takes the reader into the depths of the author's own struggle with addiction in her adult life.

After reading a few memoirs, the stories may all start to look alike. Troubled parents, troubled kids, bad situations. Domenica Ruta's way of writing with honesty and calm make the story much more real and worth reading through more than once. Her explorations into her past, her family and what may lie ahead all work together to paint a picture of a true human being, which many other memoirs never really get to.
