Shh! It's a Secret: a novel about Aliens, Hollywood, and the Bartender's Guide by Daniel M. Kimmel

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shh! It's a Secret: a novel about Aliens, Hollywood, and the Bartender's Guide by Daniel M. Kimmel is a humorous look at both the movie industry and the idea of how the world may react if or when intelligent life form outer space decides to visit. The story follows Jake Berman, a movie executive who is used to dealing with family-friendly movies for the studio he works for. However, when the Brogardi land on Earth, everyone stops to figure out what this means. Could it become the movie of the decade?

This book is a funny take on space aliens, the movies and how one stressed-out exec deals with it all. It's not totally corny and it doesn't make some valid points about us earth-dwellers. However, the "Bartender's Guide" part of the subtitle is a little disappointing--there's no summary of drink recipes at the end, but you can get the recipes if you actually read the whole book. Overall, it is a fun read and it doesn't take very long, so it's great to take on vacation.
